Title: Teen Success, Inc. Advocate
Department: Teen Pregnancy
Prevention Reports To: Program Site Supervisor/Department Program Manager
Salary: $18.00-$20.00 depending on experience and education
Purpose: To continuously promote the ideas of Fresno Barrios Unidos in transforming communities by empowering youth and families through advocacy, education, and wellness. As a Teen Success, Inc. Advocate, you are to be inclusive, respectful, and appreciative of the youth and families that we serve.
Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities:
Represent the mission and vision of Fresno Barrios Unidos.
Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching sessions with all TSI members in caseload.
Facilitate, manage and implement weekly peer learning sessions in accordance with the Teen Success, Inc. program model and objectives.
Build community relationships for program promotion and referral resources.
Ongoing recruitment and screening of teen mothers for membership in TSI program.
Collect, document and enter required program data into the TSI database in a timely and accurate manner.
Attend all TSI meetings and professional development trainings as assigned.
Complete weekly operational task, such as coordinating purchasing of snacks and supplies.
Advocate appropriately for members when barriers exist.
Assist members with re-enrolling in high school, engaging in school and exploring postsecondary education.
Work closely and collaboratively with fellow advocates and program staff.
Assist TSI members in filling out college applications and search for scholarships opportunities.
Conduct intakes and assessments with all members.
Provide continual outreach and support to members to maintain full enrollment in the program.
Contribute to all aspects of the success of Fresno Barrios Unidos.
Participate in organizational and fund development activities.
Other Tasks: Show up to work on time as scheduled. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Must have a B.A., B.S. or education can be replaced with four years of experience working with youth. Bilingual (Spanish/English strongly preferred).
Interested in empowering young women to reach their potential.
Ability to hold others accountable with tact and professionalism.
Demonstration of strong organization skills.
Ability to prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously and proactively.
Able to use a variety of interviewing methods to determine client’s needs.
Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills. Knowledge and comfort discussing sexuality and promoting family planning.
Demonstrate comfort with providing unbiased pregnancy options.
Ability to communicate non-judgmentally and effectively with target population.
Computer literate and word processing (minimum).
Ability to be empathetic while maintaining professional boundaries.
Able to hear feedback, follow through, and make necessary modifications to stay on track.
Positive attitude and willing to “roll your sleeves up” and do whatever is needed.
Required travel around Fresno County, and will require some overnight travel; must have own car.
Must have a valid California driver’s license and reliable vehicle and liability insurance.

Good people-skills and pleasant attitude.
Team player, self-starter and high degree of motivation, initiative, creativity, and energy.
Work effectively with culturally and economically diverse individuals and groups.
